Arturia have announced Efx MOTIONS, a powerful creative software effect plugin that looks to be an all-in-one effects powerhouse that gives your tracks movement and colour. Arturia’s plugins have always been very creative and dynamic while still being practical and intuitive. Efx MOTIONS continues this design, giving artists a palette of effects that can breathe life into tracks using Arturia’s high quality effects and sound design. Effects include filers, distortion, beat repeating and more with plenty of modulation routing and what looks to be a clean UI so that you can dive straight into tweaking this plug-in and not get stuck menu diving and manual reading. Unique features like being able to draw your own curves and envelopes to create movement and rhythm will surely become a very creative tool for many.
Here’s what Arturia are saying:
Bring your music to life. Turn the simplest idea into music that evolves and captivates; bring boring, static stems to life with moving filters, distortion, beat repeating, and more; make mixes feel more spacious, responsive, and alive. Add movements and energy to your music. Draw curves and envelopes to animate any sound, create automations and polymetric motion to change the feel of your music, and move from stutter to riser to mix widener in a few clicks.
Real-time creative mixing.
Use movement to make different elements in your project interact and bounce off each other, making things sit better, evolve dynamically, or dramatically alter your sound. Sound design deep dive. Stack and weave multiple FX together, trigger beat repeats, and modulate parameters all at once; Efx MOTIONS is somewhere between a full FX chain and an instrument in itself.
Features:
Main Dashboard: Your main dashboard for quickly tweaking Efx MOTIONS’ output. Adjust macros for single-click sound alterations, tailor the frequency band that’s being affected, and adjust the output level & balance.
3 main sections:
Macros: To alter the sound in one mouse click
Crossover: To define the frequency band to process
Output/Mix: To adjust how much the effect is processing the signal.
Core Section: Motion
Your front-row view and blank canvas for adjusting Efx MOTIONS’ sound processing in real-time. Draw envelope shapes, choose presets, customize your grid, and more. This is the center of the workflow, where anyone can easily draw a shape to apply the right amount of effect to the sound, at the right moment. The speed and retrigger of the envelope is controlled by the trigger section (left).
Core Section: Triggers & Dynamics
Get your sound reacting to Efx MOTIONS in any way by customizing how each module triggers and responds. Clock sync, Euclidian gates, transient detectors… This is where the fun begins. These modes control the speed of the motion and determine how the motions is sequenced, allowing for linear to complex rhythmic patterns:
Trance Gate: Editable gate patterns
Euclidean: Algorithmic gate patterns
Clock: Clock based
MIDI: Incoming MIDI notes
Transient: Audio in transient detection
As a complement, the Dynamics tab lets you create further movement based on the input signal amplitude independently.
Core Section: Modules
At the center of Efx MOTIONS are its 5 main audio modules, each providing a different type of sound alteration. Toggle them on & off, switch up their order, and dig into unique parameters for each one for a near limitless range of motion-based processing.
Noise: Embellish & texturize any sound with a layer of noise, with dozens of sampled noise types to explore – from analog white noise to computer keyboard mashing to cicadas chirping.
Distortion: Saturate, degrade, and destroy incoming sound with 10 varieties of crunch to choose from, including Tape, Softclip, and the fuzzy Germanium.
Filter: Open and close the frequencies of your incoming audio with 5 types of filtering for bubbly swells, pumping resonant risers, and subtle analog transient emphasis.
Volume: Create variations in level for stuttering percussion, tremolo-like movements, and more.
Pan: Make full use of the stereo field by manipulating the movement of panning in sync with your projects.
Core Section: Beat Repeat & FX section
Here you’ll find the Beat Repeat grid, running independently but always in sync, plus Efx MOTIONS’ 2 FX sends for final customization of your signal chain. It features:  A Creative Beat Repeat to easily sample and playback the sound with creative variations such as rolls, reverses, pitch down, time stretch & tape stops. Two effects slots with 14 high quality FX to further polish the sound
