If you’ve been following Noisegate, you’ll know I love drum machines, like really love them. So, when Korg knocked on our door with a preview of their new Drumlogue drum machine I was already chomping at the bit.
The Drumlogue is Korg’s first fully featured drum machine for some time. Yeah, we love the immediacy of the Volca range and it seems like Korg has taken what they learnt from their highly successful mighty mini boxes and gone the whole hog on the Drumlogue. Although as the name suggests the Drumlogue joins Korg’s ‘Logue’ line up of synths like the Minilogue, Monologue and Prologue. If you own one of these synths then you’ll know how good they sound and the Drumlogue is no exception. It sounds bloody great, like shut-the-@#$%-up this thing slaps!
The Drumlogue occupies a unique space as its sound engine is a hybrid of analogue and digital sounds. Many drum machines these days offer a hybrid mix, although Korg has cleverly designed its voice architecture into 4 analogue parts for your Kick, Snare, Hi Tom Low Tom, and 6 digital parts that play back one of the 128 preloaded samples. Drumlogue also features a multi-engine oscillator, as found on the Minilogue XD, capable of making a range of interesting sounds, perfect for adding a percussive yet musical element to your beats. The onboard step sequencer is very playable and performable, with some interesting capabilities to weave your beats into the new millennium. There’s also plenty of scope for customising the internal sounds with effects and modulation. There’s way way waaaaaay too much to cover in just a few sentences. Is the Drumlogue your new drum machine, we think Korg has just released a killer! Here’s our first look:
Here’s what Korg have to say:
Drumlogue marks a paradigm shift in drum machines. Let Drumlogue support your craft on your musical journey!
