Every so often, an instrument comes along that changes the way musicians think about playing altogether. The Osmose did exactly that — introducing a keybed so sensitive it could capture every subtle motion of a player’s hands. Now, Expressive E has widened that canvas with the new Osmose 61, a 61-key edition that gives artists even more room to perform, compose, and experiment with touch-driven expression.
Building on the success of the 49-key version, the Osmose 61 adds an extra octave and a newly refined keybed, offering musicians more space for two-handed performance while retaining the same groundbreaking 3D expressivity, EaganMatrix engine, and MPE compatibility.
Key Features
- 61-key fully expressive 3D keybed with multidimensional gesture control
- EaganMatrix sound engine by [Haken Audio
- Up to 24 voices of polyphony with 580 factory presets
- Built-in reverb, delay, compression, and EQ effects
- Designed and assembled in Expressive E’s new Polish factory

More Keys, Same Soul
That extra octave might not sound like much on paper, but in practice it unlocks a new level of freedom. The Osmose 61 invites expansive playing — from lush two-handed chords to complex solos that make full use of the keybed’s multidimensional response. Each note reacts to velocity, pressure, and horizontal motion, turning the act of pressing a key into something closer to bowing a string or shaping a breath.
Composer Hans Zimmer, who used the Osmose extensively for Dune: Part Two, described it as:
“Exactly the instruments that should have been built a hundred years ago.”

It’s the kind of feedback that tells you this isn’t just another keyboard — it’s an instrument built for emotion, not convention.
The EaganMatrix Engine
At its core lies the EaganMatrix, the synthesis engine designed by Haken Audio. It’s a hybrid of physical modelling, FM, and subtractive synthesis — capable of everything from delicate acoustic tones to cinematic soundscapes.
With 580 factory presets and up to 2048 user slots, the Osmose 61 comes loaded with sounds that respond dynamically to every gesture. Add in its onboard effects — reverb, delay, compression, and EQ — and you’ve got a complete performance setup straight from the hardware.

An Expanding Ecosystem
Osmose isn’t a standalone release; it’s part of an evolving creative ecosystem. Expressive E has deepened its collaborations with uhe, KiloHearts, Dawesome, AAS and Synapse Audio to bring expressive ready sound packs to its Expressive Suites library.
New software instruments like Soliste (physically modelled solo strings) and Noisy 2 (a dual-layer noise-driven synth) continue to push the boundaries of what the Osmose can do. At the same time, upcoming firmware updates promise smoother DAW integration and new minisynth editors for the EaganMatrix engine.

Made in Europe
For the first time, Expressive E has brought production entirely in-house with a new factory in Poland dedicated to Osmose and future instruments. This move gives the company full control over every stage of manufacturing — from design to assembly — ensuring higher consistency, sustainability, and longevity.
The Osmose 61 is available now worldwide.
