AN EASY ALTERNATIVE TO LIVE STREAMING
I admire the DJ community’s resourcefulness to keep the party going during a global health crisis, as DJs move from the club to streaming to social media. The sudden streaming phenomenon has seen the internet inundated with questions surrounding what gear you should purchase to capture video and line-level audio for a live stream. Plus, many have experienced problems with sets being pulled down during a live stream due to copyright infringements. For Traktor Pro users, there’s a sweet ‘audio only’ streaming alternative which means it’s possible to stream audio from a DJ set to listeners around the world.
You may have noticed that little aerial/antenna button above Traktor’s audio recorder and never considered what it even does, well it’s a sweet little feature that has existed in Traktor for some time now. It allows you to stream the audio from Traktor Pro directly to Live Sets, which is a free online broadcasting service, with a focus on digital DJs that use Traktor Pro, Virtual DJ & Mixxx. It’s a breeze to set up and start streaming your sets to the world. All you need to do is create an account, follow the 3-step set–up wizard and Traktor will begin streaming straight-outta-the software. Easy–peasy took me about 10 minutes to get it all working.
Once you’re up and running, Live Set will display real–time tracklisting of your set, let you engage with listeners via the comment section, and share your set to your social media platforms.
This is an easy way to live-stream a DJ set to the world, as it doesn’t require you to purchase any extra equipment like cables or podcasting gear as you are streaming directly from Traktor software or a Traktor DJ controller.
