Novel, The promoters behind Pitch Music and Arts Festival, are set to take over an old Italian Club in Thornbury, about 7km north of Melbourne CBD. The space, dubbed Thornbury Social Club, sits within The Furlan Club — a sprawling sports and events facility established in 1957. It’s one of the oldest Italian clubs in Melbourne, which is key, because it means it has one of the few remaining 24-hour liquor licenses in Melbourne.
Novel have held events at the venue before, but now have secured the opportunity to turn the 3000 capacity space into a more permanent ‘techno lovers playground’. Novel once again plans to enlist the services of design and production agency John Fish, who’ve brought their world-class aesthetic to various Novel events, including Pitch Festival and B3 in the Etihad Stadium underground carpark.
Located within an industrial area with no residential neighbours, the space is ideal for dance music events. It also features various other rooms and outdoor areas that Novel have indicated they may potentially use on larger scale events.
Thornbury Social Club is set to launch in September, with the first event announcement coming very soon.
