Moog Music have announced Mariana, a new software Moog bass plugin that looks set to take everything they love about synthesis with a focus on low-frequency sound design. The plug-in is compatible with iOS and Desktop OS and looks set to be a cool option for people looking for that Moog sound with a twist.
Mariana is a dual-layer bass synth for both desktop and iOS and looks to produce that classic Moog bass sound and package it with modern virtual instrument tools like layering and effects. You can blend two different sounds together to create powerful sounds and take advantage of all the usual suspects in a Moog Instrument – dual oscillators, 3 LFOs, plenty of envelopes and modulation sources and it has that essential Moog aesthetic about it too.
Effects include lots of analog emulations like tube and tape, with options for compression, delay and others to create wide emphatic bass tones. Combine this with two resonant Moog filters and a dedicated filter for the sub-oscillator and you have a tone of sculpting tools to work with.
The user interface is laid out like a classic Moog synth and has a modulation editor for quick tweaking. Mariana boasts some handy and creative features like virtual CV which allows Marian to be interconnected with other Moog software devices for seamless integration in your DAW. Its also fully MPE compatible (hello Poly-aftertouch?)
This looks to be a great entry point for users to the sound of Moog base, you can purchase a relatively low-cost version for iOS or a slightly more expensive version for desktop.
