Ahead of NAMM 2026, VOX has quietly refreshed its popular Valvetronix lineup with the VT20X Classic Blue and VT40X Classic Blue, pairing a familiar hybrid tube modelling platform with refined VET+ processing and a striking throwback aesthetic inspired by early-2000s VOX designs.
Key Features
- Updated VET+ modelling technology with improved tube response and dynamics
- Real vacuum tube preamp within a modern modelling amplifier design
- Classic blue grille cloth with VOX Split Front styling
- Compact, lightweight cabinets with sealed bass-reflex design
- USB connectivity and VOX Tone Room software support

The Valvetronix series has always occupied a unique space in the guitar amp world. It blends digital modelling with a real vacuum tube in the signal path, aiming to deliver tube feel without the bulk or volume demands of traditional valve amps. With the new VT20X Classic Blue and VT40X Classic Blue, VOX revisits that formula with a visual update and meaningful refinements under the hood.
A Familiar Platform with a New Feel
At a glance, the Classic Blue editions stand out thanks to their distinctive blue grille cloth, a nod to VOX amps from the early 2000s. The split-front cabinet design remains intact, giving these amps a recognisable VOX silhouette while setting them apart from the standard VT20X and VT40X models.
Underneath the refreshed look, the core Valvetronix concept remains unchanged. Both amps combine digital amp modelling with a genuine tube preamp stage, something VOX continues to treat as a defining feature. In fact, the VT20X and VT40X remain the only modelling amps in their class to include a real valve as part of the signal path.

VET+ and a More Expressive Response
The biggest update comes in the form of VET+, an evolution of VOX’s Virtual Element Technology. Drawing on insights gained during the development of the hand-wired AC series, VOX has refined its digital signal processing to more closely model the behaviour of real amplifier circuits and components.
This includes subtle elements such as power supply compression, which contributes to the way an amp feels when pushed. The balance between DSP and analogue circuitry has also been reworked, increasing the role of the tube itself. The result is a smoother transition between clean and crunch tones, particularly when working the guitar’s volume knob. Crunch sounds in particular benefit from a wider dynamic range, with tones that remain clear and harmonically rich even as they edge into overdrive.

Versatility Built In
Both models offer a wide selection of amp models and onboard effects, with deeper editing available via VOX Tone Room. Connecting via USB allows players to tweak amp parameters, effects chains, and presets from a computer or mobile device, making it easy to shape tones at home or in a recording setup.
The VT20X delivers up to 20 watts through an 8-inch speaker, while the VT40X steps up to 40 watts with a larger 10-inch speaker. Both remain compact and easy to move, positioning them as practical options for practice spaces, home studios, and smaller stages.

A Subtle but Considered Update
Rather than reinventing the Valvetronix platform, VOX has focused on refinement. The Classic Blue editions feel aimed at players who already appreciate the hybrid approach but want a little more realism in response and a look that leans harder into VOX heritage.
Released ahead of the company’s wider NAMM 2026 announcements, the VT20X and VT40X Classic Blue amps feel like a warm-up act that signals what VOX is continuing to prioritise. Tube feel, expressive dynamics, and designs that connect modern players back to the brand’s history.
