On 1 April Korg announced it was releasing a free update to the iMono/Poly in collaboration with Hasbro’s Monopoly; or in Korg lingo, the Monopoly x iMono/Poly. Yes you heard me right, the board game!
Given the date of release and obscure nature of the collaboration, one would be led to assume it was an April fools joke. After all, how does a hybrid board game synth even work? As it turns out the collaboration is no joke. The latest update to the iMono/Poly features a very cool monopoly ‘skin’. The knobs and encoders are converted to dogs, cars, thimbles and all the other usual Monopoly figurines, while the control panel is decorated with the universally recognisable monopoly street colours and board graphics.
The XY pad also gets a enhanced appearance with its corners including various hallmarks of the game board; ‘go to jail’, ‘free parking’, ‘in jail’ and the famous ‘pass go’ square. Of course it wouldn’t be a board game without a dice. The new iMono/Poly comes equipped with a dice randomiser which randomly changes various parameters upon its roll (or more accuratly, swipe).
The sound and function of the synthesizer remain unchanged.
The free update is now available via the iTunes app store.
