MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
MELBOURNE: 2ND-19TH AUGUST
The annual Melbourne International Film Festival is an exciting moment for any avid culture fan, showcasing the best of new local and international film-making as well as retrospective screenings and special events. As always, this year’s program features a number of music-focused screenings that will interest fans across many genres. Highlights include Now Sound: Melbourne’s Listening, a documentary focusing on the contemporary Melbourne music scene; Hear My Eyes: Drive + Live, a screening of the cult film by director Nicolas Winding Refn with live score by an all-star group of local musicians; and the Accelerator Lab Masterclass on film composition with Evelyn Morris.
CIRCULATE: BIG SOUND – A HOW TO
BRISBANE: 7TH AUGUST
BIGSOUND is rapidly approaching and for artists attending who want to maximise their experience we highly recommend this event put on by QMusic as a part of their monthly industry series, CIRCULATE. This month will see the BIGSOUND team come together to help illuminate the mysteries of efficient networking, showcasing and general hob-knobbing with music industry types for artists attending Australia’s answer to SXSW.

As a part of Sydney Science Festival, this free event at the City Recital Hall aims to explore the intimate connection between music and memory. Presented by Associate Professor Muireann Irish, a leading researcher in the field of dementia, this lecture will investigate how the power of music might be harnessed to improve the lives of those affected by dementia.
STRANGER THINGS: SYNTHESISER SOUNDTRACKS IN FILM AND TV
MELBOURNE: 15TH AUGUST
So many cool chances to expand your musical knowledge this month! Here is another amazing and free (!) event, presented as a part of the Synthesisers: Sound of the Future exhibition on at the Grainger Museum until the 9th of September. Come down to this lunchtime lecture to hear Dan Golding, host of the film music podcast Art of the Score wax lyrical about the proliferation of synth sounds in contemporary film and television.
THE CORNER X MUSIC VICTORIA PRESENTS – SOUND PRODUCTION MASTERCLASS FOR INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS
MELBOURNE: 14TH AUGUST
This is an exciting opportunity for all musicians to expand their knowledge on technical sound production! Presented as a two-hour masterclass, this event will not only school you on effective sound checks, backline requirements and basic production terminology; it will also help you to bridge the long-standing gap between musician and sound technician!
