We know, we know… It’s officially the second week of September and the Noisegate Social Club is well overdue! But what with all the excitement of Big Sound and Triple R Radiothon, our social calendars have barely allowed a moment of downtime to put together this killer list of events coming up nationwide in September. Get into it music fans, Spring is here and it’s time to go forth and blossom!

Country Daze 

When: Friday 14th – Saturday 15th September

Where: Castlemaine, Victoria (Record Low, The Bridge Hotel, The Theatre Royal)

Curated by Melbourne label Poison City (responsible for releases by bands like Camp Cope and Cable Ties), Country Daze is a two-day festival bringing a diverse stellar line-up to regional Victoria. The festival will take place across three venues in Castlemaine and the line-up is so huge that it will convince even the most city-slicker music fans to make the trek. Highlights include Loose Tooth, Harmony and HEXDEBT.

Femmo Fest 2018

When: Sunday 16th September

Where: The Tote Hotel, Melbourne

Melbourne has not been short of events this year that celebrate the strong presence of women, non-binary people and queer people in the music scene, and Femmo Fest joins the long list of shows and organisations getting behind the shift to make music spaces more diverse. In addition to this event featuring performances by amazing musicians such as Ella Hooper (of Killing Heidi), Leah Senior and Baby Blue, all profits raised from the ticket sales of this day festival will go to Girls Rock Melbourne.

Kinokonzert 02: Chiara Kickdrum & Vampyr

When: Friday 21st September in Melbourne, Wednesday 26th September in Sydney, Friday 28thSeptember in Canberra

Where: Multiple venues (see ticket details below)

This is the second edition of the KinoKonzert series which brings together a legendary silent film with a contemporary electronic soundtrack. This month’s film is the German-French horror film Vampyr from 1932 and will be accompanied with a soundtrack by Melbourne-based DJ and composer Chiara Kickdrum.

Soft Centre 2018

When: Saturday 22nd September    

Where: Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Sydney

Soft Centre is a ‘one day festival of radical performance art, sound and visual design’ taking place at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in Sydney. The event runs all day and night, with a focus on electronic music and collaborations between multi-disciplinary artists. Artists featured include friendships (live), SIMONA, Robin Fox and Papaphilia (live).

End Live Export with Tropical F*** Storm, NO ZU, New War and more

When: Saturday 22nd September

Where: Howler, Melbourne

Presented by Animals Australia, Triple R and local Melbourne record label Lost & Lonesome, this mega-gig taking place at Howler is a fundraiser with all profits going towards the effort to end the practice of live animal export. With a monumental line-up of bands including Tropical Fuck Storm, NO ZU and New War donating their time towards this worthy cause, this event is sure to be huge!

NOW SOUND – Screening and Live Show

When: Sunday September 23rd

Where: Howler, Melbourne

After a sold out premiere at MIFF, the music documentary NOW SOUND: Melbourne’s listening is returning to the screen one last time for the foreseeable future. In addition to the screening of the film, which pulls focus on the diverse and passionate Melbourne music community, this event will also feature performances by Emma Russack, Chiara Kickdrum and a super secret headliner.

MESS Presents: Vector Reflector

When: Saturday 29thSeptember

Where: Howler, Melbourne

MESS (Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio) is renowned for presenting events that showcase the most exciting and boundary-breaking artists happening in electronic music. This event at Howler promises to be just as downright good as anything they’ve done in the past as it features electronic luminaries Byron Scullin and David Chesworth collaborating on the Roland TR-808 drum machine and MESS’s super rare video synth, the EMS Spectre, as well as Emah Fox, Andras and Hextape.
