2018 is wrapping up which means lots of Christmas parties to attend and much merriment to be had. Here are some of the events that you might catch some of the Noisegate staff at this December; spiked eggnog in hand, Santa hat on head…


Coburg Night Market

Nothing better than a night market to make you feel like you’re truly on holidays. Even if you’re not, head along to this free festival for three Fridays in December (and a sneaky one in November!). Each night of music has been curated by a local record label, with line-up highlights including Dianas, Parsnip and Drug Sweat.

When: Friday 30th November, 7th December, 14th December, 21st December

Noisey Holiday Party

Rub shoulders with the cool kids at the hippest Christmas party in town… This free Christmas gig has been generously curated by VICE/Noisey and will feature some very exciting buzz acts including Katie Dey, Shogun, Spick F**k and Waterfall Person.

When: Tuesday 4th December, 7pm

Where: The Tote, Melbourne

Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival

Running for only it’s second year, this Jazz Festival promises to showcase the best in experimental jazz music being made by women at the moment. The line-up is extremely varied and includes Turkish-based band Bashka and a live recording of a new work by local composer Andrea Keller.

When: 2nd-9th December

National Live Music Awards

The NLMA’s are filling a gap in the awards market; they aim to celebrate the best of the best when it comes to the national live music scene! It’s a truly ambitious event with eight awards ceremonies running simultaneously across the country. As you can imagine, the line-up is too huge to list but check out their website to head along to the show in your city.

When: Thursday 6th December

Nocturnal: Celebrating Gender, Identity & Queer Culture

Nocturnal returns this December at the Melbourne Museum, once again allowing grown-ups to explore exhibitions after dark without children and with added drinking. This edition of the successful series (which has in the past included acts such as KAIIT, Totally Mild and Gold Class) will highlight queer creators in the music community and feature artists such as Whiskey Houston and Dandrogyny.

When: Friday December 7th, 7-11pm

GAUCI, Greenwave Beth & Schneider

Nothing like a group of local legends coming together for a classic night of free music. Noisegate favourite’s Greenwave Beth feature on this line-up which is sure to be a highlight of any Sydney-siders Friday adventures.

When: Friday 7th December, 10pm-3am

RTRFM presents Postcards from the West

A unique and multidisciplinary one-off, this event will see a line-up of local WA musicians descend on the vast film archives of the State Library, reimagining soundtracks for footage of events that have shaped the state. Artists include Akioka, Diger Rokwell and Orphans.

When: Saturday 15th December, 7pm-11.30pm
