Side-chain compression is a technique that’s featured on hundreds of tracks throughout the last 2 decades. It’s an approach that is known for producing that ‘pumping’ sound in many forms of electronic music, most commonly heard on bass lines. It’s a very useful tool for use in the mixing stage of your tracks, but can also be used as a creative tool for giving your track more rhythm and groove.

Many DAW’s and 3rd party compressor plug-ins offer sidechain inputs as a standard, and in this “Tips & Tricks” video tutorial, we look at how to do this directly from the Native Instruments Maschine and how it can add a new groove element to your tracks.
