Just released, Traktor 3.5 introduces some new features that will be welcome news to Beatport and Beatsource link users. Now you can seamlessly access these two streaming platforms directly from Traktor’s Browser. HID Support has also been added for Pioneer’s new flagship CDJ media player, the CDJ 3000 as well as improvements to the XDJ-1000MK2 and the XDJ-700.
Beatport Link is a music streaming subscription service offered by Beatport, arguably the largest online electronic dance music retailer, aimed primarily at DJs. The update provides access to Beatport’s extensive music catalogue and allows you to stream the music directly through your DJ software program for a monthly subscription fee. Beatsource Link is in many ways a similar product, except it’s made in conjunction with DJ City and offers a broad catalogue of music.
Streaming music has slowly made its way into the DJ software ecosystem that makes sense, especially when you consider the way most people consume music is through streaming services such as Spotify and Apple music. This has meant music retail stores like iTunes and others are being phased out. Great for consumers, bad for DJs.
Having access to streaming services directly in Traktor’s browser is a great way of sourcing and discovering new music, creating new playlists for your DJ sets, and it comes in cheaper than purchasing individual tracks. Although it does have limitations, that’s another story.
