Tutorial: Ableton Live Workflow – Using the Max For Live Step Divider to Generate Rhythm & Melody Ideas

It’s holiday season and you’ve got some free time to start working on some tracks. You open up Live hoping some inspiration will hit, but nope – you got nothin’, zero, nadda.

If you’re using Live 10 Suite, here’s a sure fire way to get things rolling using the Max For Live Step Divider, released last year in the free Probability Pack.  

The Probability Pack is a bundle of ‘innovative step sequencers and idea generators that use randomisation and probability to help you generate dynamic rhythms and melodies. The pack consist of 5 devices, but it’s the Step Divider in particular that I’ve found super fun to use for creating basslines, melodies and even drum arrangements.
