French audio brand Focal have redesigned their Solo6 and Twin6 monitors with major changes to the drivers, cabinets and a new ‘focus’ mode. They’ve also expanded the range with the Sub12 to round off the family.
The full range monitors have inverted dome beryllium tweeters and a single 6.5 inch woofer for the Solo and double that for the Twin. Focus mode is accessed via a footswitch which turns off the tweeter and turns the monitors into a one-way full-range monitor. Focal says this will be like ‘having a second pair of monitors in your studio which is an interesting concept. The full range monitors have a high pass, boundary EQs and LMF EQ for precise room tuning.
The Sub12 is front ported and can go down to 30 Hz which should be more than enough for most genre types. It also has comprehensive I/O and a solid array of processing including variable phase shift, polarity inversion and high and low boundary EQs.
