It’s become a bit of an annual tradition for Arturia to release a new vintage inspired effect plugin as a December gift. Last year musicians were treated to a free ‘Chorus Jun-6′ effect plugin, inspired by the effects section from a certain classic synthesizer. This year we’re pleasantly surprised to be recipients of ‘Tape MELLO-FI’, a lofi (or mello-fi) tape emulation plugin derived from their Mellotron-V virtual instrument.
This plugin is dripping with vintage character and loaded with parameters. It can sonically resemble anything from a warm analog tape recorder, to a mangled beyond repair, land-fill salvaged relic.
From variable mechanical and tape noise to tape wear, to slow and fast pitch modulation/instability via Flutter and Wow controls, you have a lot of control over how prominent you want the effect to be.
The preamp section has a similar level of customization capable of adding subtle saturation to chaotic overdrive.
And act fast, because Tape MELLO-FI is only free until December 31 2021. So thanks Arturia, and happy holidays.
