The new Blackstar IDX100 and IDX50 redefine what a “beginner” or “entry-level” amp can be—with amp voicings, onboard effects, power scaling, and tube-response flexibility all in one affordable package.
Once upon a time, entry-level guitar amps were more compromise than inspiration—but not anymore. The Blackstar IDX50 and IDX100 offer a ridiculous amount of tonal versatility for the price, with intuitive control layouts, a deep effects section, power scaling, and even tube-response emulation. And they sound great straight out of the box.
Across the front panel, players get instant access to six amp characters—from clean warm and clean bright, through to crunch, super crunch, and two OD voices—all voiced to reflect classic tones from the Blackstar family, including nods to the St. James series, Artisan 30, and more. No menus, no app dependency—just real-time control at your fingertips.
The amps come loaded with pre-effects (drives, fuzzes, envelope filters), modulation (chorus, phaser, flanger, vibe), delay (multi-tap, analog, tape, shimmer), and lush reverbs—all tweakable via the top panel. You can even tap tempos and sculpt the envelope or delay response without needing to dive into software.
Power scaling between 1W, 10W, and 100W makes it easy to get that saturated tone at bedroom or rehearsal volumes. Add the Cab Rig direct out on the IDX100, and you’ve got a gigging and recording solution built right in. Both models offer authentic amp feel, with tube-response shaping across EL34, EL84, and 6L6 profiles. It’s not just a gimmick—it really does change how the amp reacts under the fingers.
The IDX100 model includes MIDI control and a direct XLR out for live or studio use. The IDX50 offers the same tonal features minus MIDI and swaps the XLR for a TRS out—still perfect for home players or small gigs.
For newer players, this is a rig you can grow into. For experienced players, it’s the practice and backup amp that could easily double as your main gigging rig. Blackstar have absolutely nailed the brief here—simple, powerful, and fun.
