The Bock 187 is a high-end condenser microphone manufactured by Universal Audio in collaboration with David Bock, a renowned audio engineer and designer. The microphone is designed to provide a detailed, natural sound capture with a wide frequency response range, making it suitable for a variety of recording applications such as vocals, acoustic instruments, drums, and more.
The Bock 187 features a large diaphragm condenser capsule and a fixed cardioid polar pattern, which we found helps to reduce unwanted background noise and really focuses on the desired sound source. It also includes a low-cut filter and a -10 dB pad switch to help tailor the microphone’s response to different recording environments, but we didn’t use either option during our “Test Drive”.
We could tell the microphone is built with high-quality components just by the weight and feel, and it also comes with a shock mount and a prestigious wooden storage box to protect the microphone when not in use.
With the help of our good friend Andy Mc, we tested the microphone out on a Lâg Hyvibe Smart acoustic guitar and with vocals. When recording these sessions the microphone underwent absolutely no processing, and no audio editing was applied after the recording had been completed. All of the audio was recorded using the Ableton Live production suite and a Universal Audio Apollo X8 audio interface.

The microphone is built with high-quality components, including a custom-wound transformer and vintage-style electronics, which contribute to its warm, smooth sound signature. It also comes with a shock mount and a wooden storage box to protect the microphone when not in use.
