The synthesizer sounds that shaped progressive rock and pop in the 1970s and ’80s still carry weight today—for their character, warmth, and musicality. Behringer’s DEEPMIND X series taps directly into that tradition with true analogue signal paths, vintage-inspired filters, and flexible polyphony. But it doesn’t stop there. With deep modulation options, high-quality digital effects, and full remote-control capability, the DEEPMIND X range bridges classic sound with modern workflow needs.
The DEEPMIND X models use a pure analogue signal path featuring IR3109-style low-pass filters, stereo VCAs, and a choice of 6 or 12 voices. These elements allow users to recreate vintage tones or craft entirely new textures. Complementing the analogue side are four onboard FX engines loaded with over 33 algorithms from TC Electronic, Midas, and Klark Teknik. Effects like Reverb, Chorus, Flanger, Delay, and Multiband Distortion are digitally processed within the synth’s low-latency environment, offering seamless integration without external gear.
Each voice features two LFOs capable of reaching audio-rate frequencies. These LFOs come with a range of parameters—slew rate, delay, MIDI sync, envelope triggering, and fade-in—plus seven waveform types including Sine, Triangle, Square, and Sample & Glide. A unique Phase Link option lets polyphonic LFOs run in unison or offset across voices with adjustable phase shift.
The DEEPMIND X also provides three four-stage ADSR envelopes per voice, each with continuously variable curves and multiple trigger modes (Legato, Mono, Retrigger). Envelopes can be looped into the audio rate and assigned to a wide range of modulation destinations, offering considerable depth for sound shaping.
The onboard control sequencer supports a 32-step pattern with programmable parameters such as value, tie, slew, and swing. These values can be mapped as modulation sources throughout the instrument. Remote control is available through Behringer’s iPad/PC/Mac apps, connecting via USB, MIDI, or Wi-Fi. The app also includes a preset manager, full editor, and patch morphing tool for expanded creative control. Additional sound design flexibility comes from the selectable dual-slope 12/24 dB low-pass filter per voice, with adjustable resonance and tracking. Four dedicated envelope faders allow for smooth shaping of curve transitions—from linear to exponential or reverse exponential.
DEEPMIND X supports both unison and polyphonic modes, with settings for detune, pan spread, and drift to thicken sound textures. A global noise generator expands waveform options, and a sophisticated arpeggiator with 32 rhythm patterns and 13 operation modes adds further motion. Clock options, tap tempo, and pattern memory enhance live or studio usability. The chord memory function lets you build and store up to 36 six-note chords or complex polychords, which can be triggered with a single key—ideal for live sets or quick sketching. Physically, DEEPMIND X includes 26 sliders, 33 switches, 2 knobs, 1 encoder, and spring-loaded pitch and modulation wheels—all arranged for intuitive control. The LCD display is clear and easily readable, offering access to settings across five main pages: Connectivity, Keyboard, Pedal, Fader, and System. Brightness and contrast settings are adjustable for visibility in different environments.
The Behringer DEEPMIND X series is expected to arrive in Australia in early August 2025. For more details, visit the official Behringer website.
