Korg to Open New R&D Division in Germany with Tatsuya Takahashi at the Helm

Some exciting developments for Korg fans today, Korg have announced the establishment of Korg Germany — a division dedicated to developing instruments and ideas ‘that do not currently exist, but need to.’ Not only that, but one of the synth world’s most sought after engineers, Tatsuya Takahashi, is returning to the fold as CEO of Korg Germany.

Takahashi was an Engineer with Korg from 2006 to 2014, and was instrumental in Korg’s reinvestment in analogue synthesiser circuitry, giving the world products like the Monotron, Monotribe, the first few of the Volca Series, the Minilogue, the MS20 remake and many more. As he divulged in this fantastic interview with Sound on Sound, he got a job with Korg by rocking up to the interview with an 8 oscillator synth he built himself.  To say that Korg wouldn’t be where they are today without Takahashi’s stint there, would probably be an understatement.

Our source at Korg states that:

“The aim is to build, develop and manufacture instruments that will make a difference, and the very act of placing it outside of our current R&D centres of Japan, Italy, California and the UK is to inspire and look for the new. Although it will be some time before we see the fruits of their development, we strongly believe that the ideas, concepts and products that will come from Korg Germany will drive our business in all new directions and to new heights for decades to come.”

They’ve also stated that Korg Germany will be pursuing collaborations and partnerships on a per project basis. This is quite exciting — who would you like to see Korg partner with on a new product?

Oh, and if you fancy moving to Berlin, they’re hiring. See the new Korg Germany website for details here.
