Sinevibes Dense: A Virtual Analog Oscillator Plugin for Korg Synths

Sinevibes, the Korg Multi-engine wizards have released Dense, their new custom oscillator for the prologue, minilogue XD and Nu: Tekt NTS-1 synthesizers. It pairs four oscillators and four drift modulators to replicate pitch fluctuations and instabilities of old analog synthesizers – and produces vintage-style sounds with organic movement.

According to Sinevibes, the foundation of Dense consists of four separate oscillators with saw, square, triangle waveforms – generated using a technique often used in the early virtual analog synthesizers. In addition to mutual detuning, each oscillator has its own random pitch drift LFO, and global pitch can also be slightly off on every key press – together, these features simulate tuning instabilities and per-voice discrepancies in old analog synthesizers, going from very subtle to “badly needs calibration”.

Dense offers a total of 50 sound source configurations with different settings for the individual oscillator parameters, including waveform, coarse tuning, output level, and optional ring modulation or bit depth reduction for a larger range of tones. A one-pole high-pass filter and an extra sine LFO for vibrato are present to give the sound one last polish. Dense is capable of producing stunning vintage-style sounds that are full of life and organic movement because of the many variations and dynamic interactions occuring between the oscillators as well as between the oscillators and the synthesizer’s filter.
