5 Reasons Why the Traktor S4 Still Holds Up in 2021

Native Instruments have been at the forefront of digital DJing for nearly two decades and now have a fairly comprehensive line-up of products in the range of Traktor software and hardware, however, it’s been a red-hot minute since they dropped anything new for DJs.

The original MKI Traktor Kontrol S4 was released back in 2010, it was a DJ controller designed to channel NI’s creative vision for DJing, a vision that went quite a bit further than simply blending 2 tracks together with its sample decks and loop recorder. Fast forward to 2018, the Mk3 version hits the stage with a refined and matured featured set including remix decks, the turntable-like motorised jog wheels, hi-res screens and an expansive set of audio input/output connections. This made the overall DJ experience a lot more familiar to those who regularly use a club-standard CDJ setup.

Traktor MKI, MKII and the current MKIII

It’s a hotly contested corner of the DJ controller market with new gear like Pioneer’s DDJ1000 and Roland’s DJ707M popping up all the time, So does the Traktor Kontrol S4 still stack up three years after release? I sure think so, I still find the S4 MK3 one of the most powerful and fun DJ controllers around, especially for the price. Check out my video on 5 reasons why.

The Traktor Kontrol range currently consists of the S2, S3, S4 and S8, check out the full range on the Native Instruments website.

Until the end of April 2021, Australians can get a free pair of AKG headphones when purchasing a Traktor Kontrol unit, get the details here.
