New Portuguese-based Eurorack company CubuSynth, which has a passion for creating high-end Eurorack classic modules like a mixer, dual VCA, and ADSR modules that you can build yourself, has just released their newest module, Engine.
According to the CubuSynth, this is how the Engine works:
“The CubuSynth Engine can work as 2 independent VCOs, or as a complex FM oscillator with its several modulated outputs.
With its internal “Chaos Engine” it creates semi-random voltages, generated by the 2 oscillator cores. This signal is then normalized to the CV inputs for Pulse width modulation and exponential FM.
Each of the 2 VCOs offers a switch to select one of the 4 waveshapes to be used by the wavefolders, and the linear FM input normalisations.”
A bit deeper:
There are three types of frequency modulation: linear, exponential, and pulse-width modulation. All are programmable potentiometer controlled. Both oscillators have a switch for soft or hard synchronisation. This provides you with an impressive array of shaping options for the oscillators’ harmonic content. But the engine provides more than just that.
A special chaos engine circuit by CubuSynth produces voltages that are somewhat random. As a result, you can create bizarre, complex internal modulations. Using the sizable central knob or an external clock input, you can control the powerful chaos engine.
Additionally, the chaos engine’s interaction can be altered by sliding the order slider. You can think of it as the result of coupling two oscillators with a chaos modulator.
On the connection side, each oscillator has a separate waveform output, as well as CV inputs for linear/exponential FM, PWM, sync, folder, and two 1/V oct inputs. CubuSynth claims that they track consistently up to 10 octaves.
CubuSynth Engine is available now as an assembled module or as a complete DIY kit.
