Ableton has rolled out Live 12.2 in public beta, delivering a fresh set of tools and workflow enhancements for all Live 12 editions, along with major updates for Push and a new device for Move and Note users.
The Bounce to New Track feature is a big win for producers looking to streamline their workflow. Whether you want to resample a track with effects or quickly convert MIDI parts into audio, this new function saves time by eliminating manual routing and resampling steps.
Auto Filter has also received a major redesign, now featuring real-time visuals and expanded filter options. The update brings new modulation capabilities, making it easier to craft dynamic filter sweeps and rhythmic textures. Additionally, Auto Filter is now available in Move and Note, allowing mobile creators to integrate its updated filtering into their projects.
The Expressive Chords device is another exciting addition—this MPE-enabled Max for Live tool lets you play complex chord progressions with a single key or pad. Whether you’re experimenting with jazz voicings or designing lush harmonies, this feature opens up new creative possibilities.
Push Just Got More Powerful
Push users are getting several major updates with Live 12.2. Follow Actions now let you program clip-based sequencing directly from the controller, while Groove Pool integration adds swing and feel adjustments to clips without needing to dive into the DAW. Live’s new tuning system is also fully accessible from Push, making microtonal experimentation easier than ever.
Another major addition is the External Audio Effect device, now available directly on Push. This means hardware effects can be easily incorporated into a Push workflow, opening up even more hybrid production possibilities.
Finding sounds and devices in Live 12.2 has also been improved. A new Quick Tags panel allows users to organize and access their favorite instruments, effects, and samples faster. The Filter View has been simplified, and metadata can now be viewed in multiple columns for more efficient browsing.
Live 12.2 is currently in public beta, meaning anyone with a Live 12 license can test out the new features before the official release. Once the beta period is over, the update will be free for all Live 12 users.
