Microhire are the largest Australian-owned corporate event staging company, employing 200 full time employees in multiple locations and over 40 venue contracts in both Australia and Fiji. Melbourne branch Microhire, proud in-house supplier to a number of leading venues, have purchased an Adamson S10 line array system, elevating their audio inventory into the top-tier of touring events and discerning engineers.
“We’re upgrading our existing line array, which we also purchased from CMI Audio,” said Keiran Weir, Equipment Controller at Microhire Melbourne. “We researched this purchase for almost two years, and at every industry tradeshow we went to, and with everyone we talked to, we heard nothing but great things about Adamson. We loved their Metrix and SpekTrix compact line arrays, and the S10 is a major step-up in quality and size from that foundation. There was also the added benefit of continuing to deal with CMI Audio, who have always given us the very best service
Microhire are taking delivery of a full S10 system with mid-high boxes in the standard 110° x 10° (H x V) dispersion, which can produce an intimidating peak SPL of 141.3 dB. They’ve added a complement of S119 subwoofers, which sport 19″ Kevlar Neodymium drivers in an ultra-efficient front-loaded enclosure. The whole rig is powered by Adamson’s E-Racks, which include Lab.gruppen PLM+ series amplifiers, Lake processing, Dante networking, and power and data infrastructure.
“If you take into account the number of large shows we technically produce, it won’t take long for this system to pay for itself,” continued Keiran. “Lee Stevens at CMI Audio worked with us and showed us technical riders that touring professionals are specifying. After a year of carefully weighing our options, we decided that there’s just too many advantages to say no to the S10. We are investing in a system that is robust and will not be out of fashion next year – it ticks all the right boxes.”
With Melbourne Park Precinct’s Margaret Court Arena becoming a popular venue for mid-sized touring concerts over the last few years, Keiran and the crew are thrilled to be able to provide a total solution on their home turf. “We often pitch to concerts that come through, and now we can supply a world class line array,” he elaborated. “Margaret Court Arena is hosting gigs with amplification playing a major role, whether it’s a standard FOH-stage- theatre style presentation, or even an expo style gig with the floor broken up into multiple spaces with a concert stage at one end. We also provide event staging for large corporate gigs for thousands of people in Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Area, not to mention Crown Palladium, Flemington The Event Centre, the Royal Exhibition Building, and Melbourne Exhibition Centre.”
Microhire has its sights set on bigger things all round. “The S10 gives us the ability to fully supply our large outdoor events, like Singapore Day at the Flemington Racecourse, a large concert for over 5000 people” concluded Keiran. “And our off-peak period is when concert touring is at its peak. For example, in summer, we’ll be supplying the Australian Open, but our line array isn’t used, so it can go out and make money with the other top-tier audio companies that stock Adamson.”
