NAMM 2022: Dangerous Music the Release 2-BUS-XT Analog Summing Mixer

With NAMM 2022 well underway, it appears that much of the synth news and gadgets was disclosed at Superbooth 22 in May, with this year’s event focusing on guitars, effect pedals, and other instruments. However, some fascinating devices, such as the new Dangerous Music 2-BUS-XT Analog Summing Mixer, have surfaced.

The new 2-BUS-XT, according to Dangerous Music, improves on the 6-layer board summing circuitry of the 2-BUS+. When summing tracks and stems from your DAW, the maker promises that this is your entrance to a high-resolution depth of field, large sound stage, and lots of headroom. In addition, the 2-BUS-XT benefits from the 2-BUS+ legacy, which includes two custom colour circuits that the predecessor lacked.

At a Glance

On two DB25 connectors, the 2-BUS-XT has 16 analogue inputs. These are joined together to create two pairs of analogue XLR outputs: one for monitoring and the other for printing the mix to a DAW or other recording medium.

The front panel also has two mono buttons for centring two pairs of inputs, in addition to 16 signal LEDs. These, according to Dangerous Music, enable for dead-center panning of kick drums and voices with a level of precision that DAWs cannot match.

The 2-BUS-XT also includes two new colour circuits created by developer Chris Muth. The X-Former III circuit, according to the manufacturer, uses specially selected transformers to provide 2nd order harmonics for increased warmth in the lower midrange while maintaining clarity in the high end. There’s also a Coherence circuit, which improves the harmonic composition of your signals. You can blend this with the source mix using the Coherence knob, just as parallel compression. A Sum Level Trim knob is also included.

According to Dangerous Music, the 2-BUS-XT is meant to be easily expanded with other Dangerous System components. You can connect additional units or the 2-BUS+ to enhance your channel count without compromising D-SUB inputs thanks to a pair of expansion inputs. It can also be used in conjunction with the D-BOX+ to provide a complete monitoring solution.
