UDO Audio has announced the RBN-1-C Eurorack interface, designed as the ultimate companion for their RBN-1 Ribbon Controller. Packed with unique performance features like a live looper, customizable ribbon behaviours, and dual CV/Gate outputs, this 6HP module offers a new level of expression and creativity for modular synth enthusiasts. First units are set to ship in April 2025.
The RBN-1-C is designed to unlock the full potential of UDO Audio’s RBN-1 Ribbon Controller, making it easier than ever to incorporate expressive gestures into modular synth performances. With two CV and gate outputs, the module enables performers to control multiple parameters simultaneously—such as modulating pitch with one hand while shaping filter cutoff with the other.
This compact module introduces a variety of tools for custom workflows. The Scale Selector lets you set octave ranges, while the Hold On/Off feature gives you the choice to hold or reset the CV output when the ribbon is released. Whether you’re diving into experimental textures or simply enhancing your synth setup, the RBN-1-C adapts to a wide range of performance styles.
One of the standout features is the built-in live looper, which makes it possible to record and replay ribbon movements on the fly. The looper supports multiple playback modes—forward, backward, random, and ping-pong—and can sync via its trig input for perfect integration with modular rhythms. It’s an innovative way to automate expressive gestures, adding dynamic layers to your sound without needing external sequencing tools.
In just 6HP, UDO Audio has managed to fit an impressive range of capabilities. The Absolute/Relative modes allow performers to choose how the ribbon’s CV values respond to touch, while a solid visual feedback system via LEDs ensures that the status of each output and recording mode is always clear.
Beyond its creative features, the RBN-1-C is built for durability. With high-quality construction and compatibility with Eurorack power systems, this module is designed to withstand years of use in both studio and live settings.
The RBN-1-C represents an exciting step forward for expressive modular performance. It’s not just a utility module; it’s an invitation to rethink how we interact with sound. For modular synth enthusiasts, it offers new ways to add movement and nuance to patches, bringing a tactile, human touch to what can sometimes feel like a rigid workflow. Whether you’re layering intricate modulations or exploring freeform experimentation, the RBN-1-C has the potential to unlock creative possibilities that go beyond traditional modular setups. UDO Audio continues to carve out a niche for forward-thinking, expressive tools, and this release feels like an important addition to their growing lineup.
