Grooves have been part of Ableton Live for a long time and serve as an easy way to apply a new rhythmic feel to any audio or MIDI of content. For those not so familiar with Grooves, we decided to take a closer look at what they are, how they work, and how to use them.
In this video, we look at adding a more human feel to a MIDI drum groove, but there are of course many more applications for Grooves in Ableton Live. Grooves can be also be applied to audio clips, and interesting results can be achieved by experimenting with the different Warp modes available.
As Grooves are simply MIDI data, you can also create your own Grooves. An easy way to do this is to right click on an existing clip and select ‘Extract Groove(s)’. The extracted Groove is then added to the Groove Pool and can be used just like any other Groove.
Let us know how you like to use Grooves in Ableton Live.
