Japanese Giants KORG seem to be in cheerful spirits announcing new sounds and features to both KORG Collection 4 & Opsix native. The Korg Collection is a library of software instruments that emulate some of KORG’s most famous electronic instruments and the Opsix native is a virtual version of their FM digital hardware synth.
microKORG
Changes in v1.1.0
Korg have added a bank of new programs for their microKORG emulation adding to the already classic sound which has just celebrated its 20th year in production! To celebrate KORG released a limited-edition 20th anniversary Crystal model complete with a transparent body and carry bag. KORG have brought this crystal design available as a skin for the plugin so now your virtual microKORG can be just as shiny as the limited-edition hardware model.
KAOSS PAD
Changes in v1.1.0
KORG’s dynamic effects processor the KOASS Pad is also getting a suite of new programs that take advantage of pads unique X/Y touchpad to control filters, delays and other effects to create all kinds of crazy sounds in a fun and performative way. They are also adding an FX Depth parameter that you can find on the hardware versions, giving you control over the dry-wet balance of the KAOSS effects which you can control using MIDI. In case you missed go check out their brand new hardware KAOSS model the Kaoss Replay.
opsix native
Changes in v1.1.0
KORG’s intuitive take on FM synthesis takes the form of the digital Opsix. This deep digital synth echoes the famous sounds of the Yamaha DX7 with its future piano sounds and sound design capabilities. This update adds the ability to import original Yamaha DX7 patches to your Opsix via a conversion process letting you take advantage of the Opsix’s built-in effects and other features for even more FM craziness. They are als adding support for MIDI 2.0 so if you’ve recently picked up a brand new Keystage MIDI keyboard, you can take advantage of the automatic parameter exchange and integration via MIDI 2.0 property exchange. This means all of Opsix Native’s parameters and values will show up instantly on Keystage screens. Oh, and did I mention it has Polyphonic aftertouch?
While this only works in stand-alone mode for now it’s a great added feature that will create a lot of possibilities for performance and sound design.
There’s a lot to dive into with this update and it’s all available via KORG’s online shop. You can find more details here
