MIDI mute – Live Performance Utility from Elk Elektronik

We love hearing about Australian gear makers and Elk Elektronik is no exception. Hailing from Wollongong NSW, Ed and the team specialize in maintenance, repair, design, education and resources for synths, keyboards and electric pianos. Elk recently announced MIDI Mute, a programable performance utility perfect for extensive hardware set-ups and even DAW VST midi group control.

Presented in a stomp box format and controllable via an external footswitch, MIDI Mute appears simple to use but offers creative ways to control MIDI channels in your hardware chain and more. Handy features like full-size 5-pin MIDI connectors and the retention of setting after being powered off, allow you to quickly mute MIDI channels in your chain say from a sequencer rather than diving into device settings elsewhere in your setup.

Here’s what Elk Elektronik are saying:

MIDI Mute is a live performance utility for creating MIDI Mute Groups to expand your arrangement capabilities. MIDI Mute interrupts MIDI messages on user-selected channels.

MIDI Mute Features

  • Create programmable MIDI Mute Groups for your hardware or DAW
  • No hanging notes
  • Rugged stomp box format
  • External footswitch control
  • Full size 5 pin MIDI connectors
  • Compatible with new and vintage MIDI-enabled synths
  • Retains your Mute settings while powered off
  • Simple user controls
  • USB – MIDI interface
  • Powered via USB

Applications

MIDI Mute is great as the first device in your hardware MIDI chain after your sequencers. It can often be difficult to mute multiple sequencer channels at once or mute them remotely. MIDI Mute can handle both of these functions for you. Here are some other ways you can use MIDI Mute:

  • Program MIDI Mute to solo tracks
  • Use MIDI Mute to create rhythm drops
  • Shadow Muting
  • Add/remove channels in real time
  • MIDI Interface/routing

You can find more details about how to implement these applications in the User Manual.

Also from Elk Elektronik is Elklik a CV Controlled Relay for Eurorack with Built-in Comparator which you can find out more about here. Elk also host workshops, synth meet & greets and even Synth Incursion/Excursions for Schools.
