Serato Studio is the latest offering from New Zealand’s pioneering DJ company, Serato. The software was designed to help bridge the gap from DJing to music production and beat-making with a host of beginner and advanced features, and integration with DJ controllers, DJ mixers and MIDI controllers.
Serato, who gained a foothold in the marketplace with their DJ software ‘Scratch Live’ back in 2004, has come a long way with an extensive product line designed for Digital DJing, now they announce they’re moving into the music production world with Serato Studio, “an intuitive beat making software for DJs and producers”.
Currently, in Beta, the software mimics the look and layout of their current DJ software Serato DJ Pro, designed to create a familiar space for users looking to move into beat-making for the first time. You can also get access to your Serato DJ library and Serato’s in-built FX’s like Pitch’n’Time.
Serato says they have included workflow features like ready-made drum patterns and free sounds and samples, handy for people wanting to make DJ friendly intro and edits of their tracks. It also includes built-in Instruments and the ability to host your own VST/AU plug-ins.
This isn’t the first time Serato have made music production tools, in 2017 Serato launched Serato Sample, which was a creative sampling plugin – allowing you to sample tunes from your Serato DJ library, and slice them to create new phrases. On the surface, it looks as though Serato have taken inspiration NI’s Maschine software with pre-made drum patterns and pattern sequencing, but it will be interesting to see how this software integrates with different hardware controllers and DJ mixers.
